Whilst I may not be exhibiting work currently, I am busy meeting new artists and visiting exciting exhibitions and am working up some exciting ideas for collaborative projects.
A couple to recommend right on my doorstep in Hastings are the newly opened shows at Hastings Contemporary. The first is a ground breaking exhibition showcasing the work of six Black artists of Caribbean heritage currently based in Hastings. WE OUT HERE runs from 1st April to 4th June and features large scale multi media work exploring themes of migration; coastal living; climate justice and racial injustice; slavery; Black presence in crafts; fast fashion and the effect of global exploitation in continental Africa. The other exhibition running until 24th September is SOUTINE | KOSSOFF. Pairing two major figures of 20th century painting, the exhibition brings together around 40 important loans from public and private collections in the UK, USA and beyond. I have always loved Soutine's portraits for their strange and intense quality and this show does not disappoint. Jenny Pollitt April 2023 |
